Perhaps not more than two years ago, I had the opportunity to hear from an elder at a public gathering. Not only did I know communication skills well at the time, but I was also further working on them. This old man was an illiterate seventy-year-old, who had hardly ever touched a pen in his life. Listening to him, I felt that this elder seemed to be extremely trained in speaking and was using very well all the principles that I had read somewhere but had never been able to use. His voice was as heavy as he had been practising for a long time. There were special pauses in the delivery of the words, giving full voice to the sounds of the letters of each word. In short, he was speaking and the audience was listening very quietly and it seemed to me that this crowd was in his hands, wherever he took it, wherever he put it, he had the option.

Listening to seventy years old illiterate, I felt that he is extremely trained in speaking and was using very well all the principles that I had read somewhere but had never been able to use.

For a time, I competed with today’s educated generation, who had graduated from excellent educational institutions with communication skills, but I saw no one with such skills. I’ve seen teachers whose job is to communicate, but no such expert level.

The question that arises here is where do our educated class lose their speaking skills? Even that they are not able to express themselves well? Our teachers can’t explain things clearly in the classroom, similarly, our scientists can write well but can’t speak clearly enough to do justice to a subject. The biggest issue with speaking, in my opinion, is that it requires constant practice.

When I asked one such elder about his childhood, he said:

In our house, we had a large room where we would sit until late at night and the adults would talk and tell stories for hours. The kids would simply remain silent, and if they said anything, they would be sent out of the room.

This event explores me a lot. The modern generation is so stuck with digital devices that they rarely find the opportunity to talk to a group. They only face virtual groups, where they share their ideas, but do not face the real public. Technology is necessary, we must follow it, however, if we leave old traditions and start talking only on social networks, we are actually saying goodbye to great oral communication skills.

Where the world is going virtual, it is very difficult to have time for public places. In my opinion, spending time in roundup is a human need.
